Sir Arthur Guinness
24/09/1725

24 Sep 1725: County Kildare welcomed a newborn Arthur Guinness. At around age thirty, Guinness used £100 in inheritance to lease an ale brewery in Leixlip, Kildare. In 1759, with his brother managing the Kildare operation, Guinness secured a 9,000 year lease on the St. James Gate, Dublin facility for just £45 per year. By 1799, with ale production ceased, Guinness shifted production capacity exclusively to porters and eventually the stouts we know today. Be sure to book a tour at the Guinness Storehouse (St. James Gate, Dublin 8)for a behind the scenes look - and of course a pint!
