Pádraig Pearse

10 Nov 1879: Pádraig Pearse (Patrick Henry Pearse) was born at 27 Great Brunswick Street (now "Pearse Street" in honor of himself and brother Willie).
Pearse joined the Gaelic League while still a student, eventually securing a bachelor's degree in language and passing the bar. Given his education and appreciation for language, it was only natural that Pearse assume the helm of the league's newspaper "An Claidheamh Solius" (The Sword of Light). On Easter Monday 1916, it was Pearse who read aloud the Proclamation of The Irish Republic in front of the GPO. And as an author and signatory of the proclamation plus President of Provisional Government, Pearse was executed at Kilmainham Gaol on 3 May 1916.
