Film: “Ryan’s Daughter”

Set in the fictional seaside hamlet of Kirrary on the Dingle Peninsula (County Kerry), the film takes viewers back to a particularly tumultuous period in Irish history. Specifically, this was after the Easter Rising but before the ambush at Solohead Beg, the start of Ireland's War of Independence.
The unhappily married daughter of local publican and informer to the crown is discovered having affair with a British soldier stationed in the area...let's just say things go downhill.
One of the highest grossing films of 1970, "Ryan's Daughter" eventually pulled in four Oscar nominations and two wins. But to be honest, the rugged Dingle coast steals the show.
If you haven't seen the film we'd recommend it...and a visit to Dingle in person will take your breath away.
