Literature: A Borstal Boy

9 Feb 1923: Dublin, Ireland welcomed a newborn Brendan Francis Aidan Behan. Behan's upbringing and life experiences found their way into his work as a poet, novelist and playwright - even a songwriter.
He received critical acclaim for plays "The Quare Fellow" (1954) and "The Hostage" (1958) as well as his autobiographical novel "Borstal Boy" (1958) - despite it being banned in Ireland.
Known for his wit and larger than life personality Behan once quipped: “There is no such thing as bad publicity, except perhaps your own obituary.”
